May 17-20th (set up afternoon of May 16th) Registration Closed Sue Holdaway-Heys Fiber Art- “Create Your Own Landscape or Floral Art Quilt” $495
 In
this supportive and creative atmosphere you will create an original
fabric composition that is an artistic interpretation of a favorite
vacation or garden photograph. With the luxury of digital photography
you may have immediate documentation of a pleasing composition.
A
landscape or still life transfers easily from these photographs to a
quilt.

Onto the Page” and “Pushing the Surface: a Sampler of Technique” $575

Building Pathways to Creative Work” (Beginning to Intermediate) $525

a series of individual and interactive group exercises, Terry will
focus on teaching you techniques to help you get started on a path
toward more stimulating and creative ideas. The work will be fast
paced in an atmosphere of lively, yet supportive, exploration.
Through guided and self-directed exercises, you will create studies as

June 7-10th (set up afteroon of June 6th) Susan Moran- Fiber Art- Shibori: Dyeing and Discharge Registration Closed $495
 This
workshop will cover the basics of dyeing with Procion MX dyes, as
well as introducing students to several methods for creating beautiful,
unique patterns on fabric using Japanese shibori, or bound-resist,
techniques. There will be a thorough discussion of dye principles,
basic dye chemistry, safety, and practices for mixing dyebaths from
stock solutions as well as powders. We will make both acid and alkaline
dyebaths for different fabric types.
Students will learn bound,
clamped, stitched, and shaped-resist shibori, and make a series
of samples with a variety of natural fiber fabrics. The resulting
samples may become part of future projects such as quilts, collages,
wall-hangings, or table linens.

the language of watercolor, we painters can explore the natural world

July14th-15th Dianna Soisson- Color Pencil- "A Journey in Color Pencil" Registration Closed

This workshop will
take students on a journey into the exciting and growing world of color
pencil. Students will discover this media to be very calming and
meditative. There will be pelnty of demonstrations, techniques,
worksheets, one-on-one assistance, discussions, and critiques.
Epmhasis will be on the color blending and color theory, applied to a sample drawing the first day. we
will then use our knowledge of the color pencil and apply it to a
transferred drawing taken from one of the photos brought in.

July 26-29th Ann Arbor Botanical Gardens Jim Markle- Pastel- “Painting Landscapes” Registration Closed $575
This in depth plein air workshop will include two painting
sessions per day, and ongoing individual critiques by the instructor as you
work. Besides demonstrations by the instructor, various ways to approach pastel
painting will be covered during the four days. You will be shown ways to start
your paintings with various under painting techniques. In addition to much
practical information, composition, three value design, principals of making
subjects in your painting recede into space are just a few of the many things
that will be covered.

this Workshop students will be encouraged to simplify the subject
matter through focusing on the composition, massing and placement of
shapes, values and color relationships.
Working with these three main areas will allow us to identify and address each aspect of any given painting.

August 24th-26th Ann Arbor Botanical Gardens Mark Mehaffey-water media- "Design, Color and Experiments in Water Media" Registration Closed $450
Participants
will create paintings using the elements of shape, line, value and
Color to simplify subject and use a variety of color plans to create
emotion and mood. Discussion of content, the importance of color
schemes and line quality will also be covered.
Finally
participants will work intuitively with shape, color, line and
especially texture to produce an abstraction with a personal focus and
a representational work based on personal reference choices. These
paintings will be as fun and absorbing to view, as they are to paint.
There
will be both group and individualized instruction with time set aside
for critique. This is a fast moving, fun workshop where we all learn
and share. All levels are welcome as long as everyone is comfortable
with their materials.

August 24th-26th Ann Arbor Botanical Gardens Leslie Sobel- Encaustic - "Encaustic Intensive, Basics and Beyond"-
Exploring Encaustic Painting, Collage
& Monoprint $425

This 3 day intensive workshop will provide an deep introduction to
using this beautiful but challenging medium. Encaustic is worked in a
molten state with a heated palette and a propane torch or heat gun to
fuse paint layers to one another.
In this workshop students will learn
to use the torch, how to aply the paint and use it as a collage medium
par excellence. We will explore painting in encaustic, combining it
with mixed media in collage and assemblage as well as making encaustic
monoprints.
This
workshop will be tailored to the needs of the individuals
attending. If you've got some encaustic experience there will be
lots more to build on here - no need to be a beginner but beginners are

September 20-23th Ann Arbor Botanical Gardens Kerr Grabowski Fiber Art- " Deconstructed Screen Printing" Six spaces left! $575
Explore
a different facet of screen printing on fabric; the unpredictable, the
intuitive, the “happy accident”. Using fiber reactive dyes along with
deconstructed printing and polychromatic printing, experiment with the
silkscreen as a painting and monoprinting tool to create fabrics
of depth, texture and personal imagery.The resulting fabric may be used
as an end in itself or a point of departure for further embellishment.
In
addition to demonstrations and hands on work, each day will include a
series of small, spontaneous compositions serving as vehicles for
further exploration. Working within a series and variations on a theme
will be encouraged.

plenty of field time, so you get accustomed to your camera.

will go through the entire workflow right through to archiving. The
class is small to allow extra time for individual attention and
exploration with assistance.

October 5th-8th Ann Arbor Botanical Gardens Susan Shie- Art Quilt Painting “Diary Quilt Paintings: Don’t Forget to Write” $525
 Draw,
paint, and write on whole cloth paintings with markers, fabric paint
and brushes, and optional airpen. This class is especially good
for people who have no confidence in themselves as artists. I’ll
show you that you can create just fine, like you did when you were
little. And you’ll enjoy it, too! You’re full of good ideas
waiting to burst out of you.
Emphasis here is not on the
sewing, but on the message and imagery, and on staying in an intuitive,
non-analytical mindset, letting the ideas and images flow onto the
cloth. Pick one or two paintings to machine quilt in my super
simple Crazy-Grid style in class. All skill levels for drawing,
painting, writing, and sewing.

 Create
a beautiful mosaic for yourself or a loved one in this fun, two day
workshop with Tricia Huffman; owner of Mended Pieces Mosaic Studio.
Tricia
will discuss proper tool use, basic color theory, and grouting
techniques. Each student will make a 12x12 piece of their
choice. Smaller class sizes alows Tricia to work with beginning
mosaic students as well as those that are more experienced and want to
expand their mosaic knowledge.

theme of this workshop is: Make your paintings more personal and
creative by plugging your subjects into design. Donna will demonstrate
and discuss methods and ideas that will help you turn ordinary subjects
into creative and imaginative paintings. We will focus on composition,
color, and a personal and creative use of the elements and principles
of design.
All levels are welcome and this workshop is open to
all watermedia. Donna will be using watercolor and white gouache in her
classroom demonstrations. Students will work from their own reference
