When you first look at Susan Shie’s Art Quilts you are mesmerized by the appearance of the complexity of these works of art. There are wonderful drawings and painted images of people, animals, things etc. But then there are the words, lots and lots of words intermingled among the images telling stories and documenting history.

I picked up the spring issue of “Art Quilting Studio” at the bookstore the other day. As I was glancing through it I noticed a style of art quilts that looked very much like Susan Shie but it was titled “Gretchen Marie: Her Girlhood”.
So immediately I thought someone was creating artwork that looked just like Susan’s. But then I saw who it was written by and indeed it was Susan Shie. Read the rest of this entry »
